Our Baby Shower
It's not really a 'thing' yet in the UK - a baby shower, but I wanted to throw Eve a surprise pre-baby gathering of friends and family before two become three! A plan was set in motion, the WhatsApp invites were typed out and sent, then Eve goes and books her hair to be done in the morning, a gift from the gods allowing me the perfect opportunity to make this a better surprise.
I dropped her off at 9am, hit the supermarket for some foodie bits and rushed back to get preparing. Luckily my Mum was already on the door step, cake in hand waiting to assist. Between us we had the place spotless within an hour and a half and it was time to get ready. While my Mum was blowing up the balloons (all decorations by the way were purchased from Ginger Ray - definitely check them out for parties!) I was removing the wedding details from our A-frame chalk boards and drawing on some fun baby-related guessing games - yes they are the same chalk boards from our wedding that had been hiding under the spare bed for 2 years.. By 12 o'clock our friends had arrived and it was time to pick Eve up again from the salon. As we returned home the curtains had been closed so when Eve walked through them, she was met with a chorus of 'Surprise!', an Elderflower and Sparkling water instantly in her hand and a 'Mummy to be' sash placed over her head... we had pulled it off! Although I had tried my best to stipulate no need for gifts, the Mums and our friends were all very generous and bought gift bags and hampers full of useful pressies for Eve and the baby! A big thank you to all of them for being so very thoughtful :)
We all had a great laugh filling out and reading the advice cards, some were definitely questionable and definitely not suitable for this blog! Although most of the old wives' tales indicated our baby will be a boy, most of the guesses were for a girl! We also had a 'guess the name' bowl which gave us some useful suggestions and definitely some food for thought. Speaking of food, with the help of the Mums I prepared a party-inspired vegan spread. Not everyone was eating plant based but as this day was all about Eve I decided to do just that. My food list was the following: Sour Dough Loaf - obviously Vegan Sausage Rolls Falafel Balls Coleslaw (which had shredded dried mango, craisins and vegenaise in it - AMAZING) Bruschetta bites with avo, cherry toms and balsamic Bean Salad Guacamole and Hummus to dip This fantastic feast was of course followed by a slice or two of cake made by my Mum. The top tier was Vegan Lime and Coconut, the bottom tier was a rich chocolate - totally delicious and beautifully decorated - thanks Mum! So there we are, a sneak peak into Eve's surprise baby shower. If you wanted to join in the fun, perhaps comment below your guesses for baby's sex, name, weight and hair colour!
Thank you to all those who've commented wishing Eve (and sometimes myself!!) well during the pregnancy, we have been overwhelmed by the reaction to our pregnancy videos and can't thank each and every one of you enough for watching, reading and supporting us during this journey. Big thanks also to my Mum for the help on the day, as well as the incredible cake, and to Eve's Mum for help with the food during the day too. Chris x Comment Box is loading comments...
