BACKYARD CINEMA AT WINTERVILLE FESTIVAL
During December we usually take the whole month off work to film 'Vlogmas' on our YouTube channel. It's great fun but it does come with its challenges, one is to find enough festive activities to fill 24 days of filming!
We often go to Winter Wonderland in London but looked for something different and stumbled across 'Winterville Festival' in Clapham. They kit out Clapham Common festival style with food trucks galore, neon covered theme park rides, an ice rink and crazy golf! The main reason for our visit was the Backyard Cinema. Imagine a marquee kitted out winter-woodland style and filled with plush, bean bag loungers... it is cosy as can be!!
We arrived around 2pm as our screening was mid afternoon, so managed to skip the queues which was a bonus!
Think of all the nostalgic Christmas films you love to watch each year, what would you choose to see? Well...we booked to see HOME ALONE! There's really nothing more christmassy and nostalgic right?
To get into the cinema we had to work our way through the Christmas Labyrinth, a maze of hidden doors behind which are different themed rooms including this amazing fairy-lit forest!
We bought 'lounger' tickets which were the front two rows, with a more 'lazy boy' style bean bag and a cosy blanket... super festive! It turns out we really needed the blanket as it was actually pretty chilly inside... that helped with the cosy feel but we're glad we wrapped up for the cold that day!
One of the staff took us to choose our seats which were then reserved, allowing us to explore the tent. The seats were surprisingly comfortable and felt really cosy, it felt like we were the only two in there :)
Inside the cinema tent they had a mulled wine and mince pie bar, both of which were seriously DELISH! Being a cinema we knew they'd stock some sweeties and they didn't disappoint... the bar was stocked full of Christmas themed pick 'n' mix!
Once the film had finished we headed back out into Winterville to explore. We needed to warm up a little so headed straight for the 'Street Feast'. Imagine different camper vans cooking and selling all kinds of food, the smell was insanely good and we didn't know where to start! Eventually we settled on wood fired pizza from 'Fundi Pizzas'., Chris had Parma Ham & Mozeralla and Eve had a Vegan Cheese & Mushroom.
After Pizza we had a wander round. From watching people either skate like swans on the ice or wobble like jelly before stacking it completely, winning big teddy bears from fair ground stalls or screaming on brightly lit-up rides it was all entertaining. They had stalls selling Churros and Ice cream (why you would get ice cream when it's freezing outside we have NO idea) and it all smelled incredible! As we had the early screening in the cinema, the whole place was still quite quiet so it was easy to get around and there weren't any queues.
We decided to go on the Spinning Topper ride, basically a spinning swing that takes you high above the festival which makes you extremely dizzy...hilarious mainly because Eve was scared out of her wits on this child friendly ride!
So that was our day out at Winterville Festival. Do check it out if you're in the area, it's free entry too! We did book the Backyard Cinema in advance as they're known to sell out quickly. They do have them all year round at different venues though and we're sure they're just as cool even if it's not for Christmas, we're definitely going to go again!
Do let us know below in the comments what's your favourite things to do in the run up to Christmas and if you're planning on going to Winterville Festival to!
